Buchanan and Cooney headed to retirement

COONEY
Two captains in the Troy Police Department are retiring.
According to a Facebook post by Capt. Terry Buchanan he and Capt. John Cooney are having their retirement party this Friday at the Park Pub at Frear Park starting at 4:30 p.m. Far be it for me to invite anyone to their retirement party but it was on a social media site and is does conclude with “all are welcome to stop by.”
I’ve known them both since I first started at The Record – and they were around long before I was.
Buchanan used to write a column for the paper and Cooney was the Police Benevolent Association President when I first came aboard.
Buchanan now heads up the Internal Affairs division and Cooney is the Public Information Officer.
BUCHANAN is sworn in as captain by TEDESCO
For what it’s worth, I found both men to be upstanding police officers and individuals. I could kill an hour talking – not just about cop stuff but anything - to Buchanan on Broadway and his opinion often played a part in formulating my weekly columns. And Cooney was always honest and forthright – he told you what he could on the record but more importantly made sure we of the Fourth Estate understood what was really going on.
I’m sure there will be all sorts of scuttlebutt about the reason they are leaving is the turmoil among the TPD hierarchy over the past couple years and that may have played a factor. But, they’ve been around long enough to know most turmoil is just a passing phase and in time things will go back to normal. Maybe not the same as it was pre-turmoil, but normal just the same.
In the end, while I have not talked to either of them yet, I’m guessing they just thought it was their time to move on and I wish both men well in their retirement. I’m sure their presence and professionalism will be missed at the TPD.
The upshot is, now maybe they can tell me all the stuff they couldn't tell me before.

  1. Terry Buchannan has been a good cop from day one. The taxpayers have always got their monies worth. Wish him all the best.

  4. Seems like the old adage "when you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all" is being practiced in this story.

    2. Maybe they are. Aren't Lou and Pete good guys? Maybe one gave the taxpayers their due and one didn't.

  7. I think people can sense when a person is genuine versus someone who is self serving and disingenuous.

Thank you Mr. Buchanan and best to you and your family.

  8. They both needed to go. Office cops. Need new men on the streets. Would they like to arrest anyone for the murder of a pregnant mother and the arson of multiple buildings in north troy before the door hits them in the ass on there way out? Typical cop/firemen in Troy build there last 3 years up doing absolutely nothing get there big pension and move south. One talks to Jews cameras and the others investagates and covers for other cops. Good riddance to them.

    3. I guess they have nothing to go on? Maybe Willy is right when it comes to black crime the Troy PBA doesn't care. A pregnant mother is melted to the floor of her arson fire apartment and you have nothing to go on? Then throw there asses to the curb and move on. If the next group doesn't solve these murders throw them out to.

lets disband the unions too while were at it then it will be real survival of the fittest pissin contest
who ever has the most intestinal fortitude will and then get rid of the most dead weight will be the true winner

    3. They may NOT live in the City, however, their contract do NOT require them to................. Want to go for blood????? Check out how many City employees that are contractually required to, live IN the City

    4. That's correct police an fire do not have to live in the city.... other city employees now that's something you can look into.

  11. So Rodney thinks the administration shouldn't react defensively to subpoenas? I guess in RodneyWorld everyone is stupid enough to simply grin and jump for joy when threatened with legal process by a publicity driven egomaniac with an agenda.

You're flailing, Rodney. Lou maneuvered right around you, and it won't be the last time. Count on it.

    1. Brilliant 4:59. Don't forget Zalooski too. He contrives ideas for his front man then hides in the background in case there may be a negative reaction. Coward for life: Ken Zalooski.

    2. "Coward for life" says the anonymous commentator. The word 'hypocrisy' comes to mind.

It's amusing to watch how Rodney and Ken get in the heads of the Wade flunkies. You know- the low-functioning underachievers who derive all of life's meaning through their morbid preoccupation with gutter politics.

These gentlemen represent a new breed of politician and in Troy it is both refreshing and necessary.

As far as cowardice goes, I have never known Ken or Rodney to be anything but direct, principled and articulate. The same cannot be said for most of their Democrat cohorts.

Cowards steal votes from the poor and disadvantaged. Cowards remain quiet while the public is put in danger by an incompetent administration. Cowards use anonymous blogs to circulate false accusations against the targets of their paranoia.

    3. @9:35 Yet you comment anonymously. You're right, the word 'hypocrisy' does come to mind. Also, 'irony'. Google it.

There is absolutely nothing direct nor principled about Rodney or Ken. It goes far beyond the current "investigation." If you're amused by criticism of these two buffoons, you're in luck. There's plenty to be amused by.

    4. @7:35 <-- A Wade flunky

@9:35 Right on target man. Those two men (Rodney & KenZ) are bright and energetic. I'll add Anastasia and Jimmy Gordon to the mix too. For fun you can contrast them to the Walking DEAD (Rosamilla, Kopka, Teta, Dougherty, Wade, Mcann), you know, Troy's own zombie mob!

The zombie mob might be scary and lacking consciences (they are DEAD after all) but they are slow and easy to outwit.

Rodney and gang have done a brilliant job of outsmarting them at every turn.

  12. Following the news I would say Rodney is looking fine while mayor cLOUless looks weak and helpless. Wiltshire is doing what cLOUless failed to do --- look out for the publics safety.

The only manuvering that cLOUless is doing now is the denial dance.

    1. For this observer, rodney is looking like a self-serving opportunist politician who plans to destroy a few lives or reputations for the chance to convince a few uninformed people to vote for him. His supporters now are a small band of misfits looking for a friend.

    2. Please attend a Wiltshire fundraiser and then tell us Rodney is "looking fine". If your supporters consist of felons, mouthbreathers, and people who can't tie their shoes unassisted, you're not "looking fine".

  13. Could be good guys, could be just more of the problem. What was their last 5 year salary history including overtime? isn't it on Seethrough? We need less desk cops and more walking the beat. Gauging success by the amount of gunfire on the streets, troy looses.
