Race for DA is too close to call

ABELOVE

The race for Rensselaer County District Attorney will go to absentee ballots.

According to unofficial results from the Board of Elections, Republican Joel Abelove ended the night with 50.36 percent or 21,857 votes to Democrat Carmelo Laquidara’s 49.58 percent or 21,518 votes.
LAQUIDARA
There were about 2,700 absentee ballots issued and 1,814 were returned to the BOE.
The re-canvass of machine votes generally takes place the day following the election. It’s unclear when the two sides will sit down and go through the arduous process of counting the absentee ballots.
The two are vying for the seat vacated when Rich McNally was sworn in as a Supreme Court judge on Jan. 1.

  1. This was a good race. It shows that the Dems with a good canidate can win. Mahar is toast if he runs next year.

    1. The only difference between McInerney and Rich Crist is a DNA swab.

  3. Just hand the ballots over to McDonough and Galumpski, they know how to pick a winner.

    1. Thanks McCashion. Sucks being irrelevant, doesn't it.

    2. McInerney could easily hand in 3 to 4 hundred, he's admitted he's done it a few times.

    3. McInerney is the biggest Rich Chris wanta be there ever was. Kills him to see all of Rich's successes legal successes that is. Alls Mac can do is hang around his buddy Kevin McGrath waiting for John Brown to get home so then the "old gang" will be back together.

  6. Did Wade's people win anything? The only democratic winner was Meier, who he has dissed in the past. The rest of his candidates went down in flames. Cuomo did not carry Rensselaer County. It is time for Wade to move on!

  7. This was a close race so the Republicans think that Mahar can win next year. I don't think so.

    1. Well after the first of January Gary Gordon will have a lot of time to map out his campaign strategy. By the way, thank God Carm wasn't elected, they f*cked up the Lockrow prosecution. Are all dems incompetent?

    2. Gary Gordon made a absolute fool out of himself when he ran for Sheriff. Hope Abelove throws his monkey ass out beginning the new year. Run again for Sheriff Gary and you will be 0-2.

    1. I agree, it was a tough choice to make. For once both candidates were not only qualified, but competent enough to hang in for the long haul.

  9. I really do hope Carmelo wins. He's done an amazing job since he took the helm. He's got the experience and the determination to turn that office around.

  12. Now we have a dozen great ADA's distracted over whether they'll have a job in January. Let's hope Joel does the right thing and makes an effort to bring some sense of peace to the current staff so they can continue to do one of the most difficult jobs in the legal system.

    1. Why will they be distracted? They won't have a job in January. Suck it up and move on like we all did at transition time.
