EXCLUSIVE State: Councilman Galuski improperly collected $34,700 in unemployment benefits (UPDATED)

GALUSKI

A Troy councilman owes the state $34,700 in wrongfully obtained unemployment benefits and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman wants the money back.
In a lawsuit dated June 9, Schneiderman, on behalf of the state Department of Labor, said Councilman Gary Galuski, D-District 6, improperly collected the money from Feb. 2, 2009 through Sept. 5, 2010 and now must pay it back(The lawsuit can be seen below.)

Galuski, who now works at the Board of Elections in Rensselaer County, was elected to the Council in 2006 and took office in 2007. He is in his last two year term and will have reached his eight year maximum at the end of next year. He was hired at the Board of Elections in 2010 and now makes $39,000. He has made $15,000 in each of his six-plus years on the Council.
According the suit, the state DOL had unsuccessfully attempted to collect the money and then asked Schneiderman, the state’s attorney, to bring the lawsuit.
Galuski could not immediately be reached for comment.

  2. Looks like Gary went to the Kathy Jimino school of financial oversight. Just tell them you were too busy going to fundraisers to comply with the laws, and blame it all on unfunded mandates.

    1. It's not a criminal proceeding

    2. Why not, if it were me I would already be in RCJ. Once again we few taxpaying Trojans get the shaft. There is no excuse for anyone serving in a position of making or enforcing laws to be corrupt.

  5. Heard there maybe a fundraiser for Galuski to help pay off his UIB tab. For $10 you get 2 perogi 2 golumki 1 piece of kielbasa and 5 absentee ballots for next years election.

  6. Just very confusing though, why isn't Schneiderman also auditing his unemployment staff? This should have been caught by them before it got to a sum that large.

  7. You have to love Vito and George Rodgers! Vito will be donating this weeks 50/50 from the Powers Park show and George is giving half the gate and all of the 50/50 from the South Troy Dodgers this weekend to help Gary out. It warms my heart and these 2 stand up guys oppitimize the"South Troy against the World" motto. God bless you Vito and George you two truly are the salt of the earth....oh and LETS GO SOUTH TROY DODGERS!

  8. You are not serious about that are you if so if Lou allows that he needs to resign immediately. This isn't some employee that is out sick and needs financial support this is a white collared crime that he should be the only one to swallow the pill

    1. 11:09 wins the common sense award. It's obviously the same few malcontents who attack Wade because he beats them year after year.
Face it, Wade has brought the Democratic Party back to a respectable position in this county and the losers in the party don't even know it.

    2. "Respectable position in this county"? The dems run the city of Troy. for now

    3. Would love 5 minutes with Wade and Lou to show them all the information I have gathered on employment in Troy and how things came about how certain people were hired. It doesn't follow the rules that are in the Charter. I didn't write the Charter. They came up with the Charter. There are no exceptions in the Charter. So why can they not follow their own rules in the Charter.

    4. 5 minutes with wade you must be one of the delusional people wade was the one who hired most of these quacks and mirch and harry are the inventors of quackery

    5. I really would only need 5 minutes. I took Business Communications and Public Speaking in College. I have paperwork already copied, seperated and in color coded folders ready to hand to them and of course my lawyers business card.

    7. 737, and what exactly have you done to try and get more transparency in the how things work within the City? I bet nothing, just bitch about it, and then bitch at the people like me who are working hard to look into things that no one dared to look into before

    3. Hello? I really would like a job at the Board of Elections. How did Galuski get his?

  11. Kopka- Unemployment fraud, busted had to pay it back. Galuski- Unemployment fraud, busted didn't pay it back.
Voter Fraud- Several Dems indicted, convicted, acquitted, implicated, ratted on or thrown under the bus. Lives and careers ruined.
Lou administration- Investigations by just about every level of government. Its so bad the Dems are investigating themselves. Charges and indictments are probably in the near future.
Common Denominator- Tom Wade and his minions who for years and to this day accuse Republicans of wrongdoing. Troy Democrats are built on a culture of corruption from McDonough and Wade all the way down.
Future- More lives and careers will be ruined.
Result- People of Troy who were fooled or defrauded to vote Democrat will continue to suffer embarrassment under One Party Democrat rule

  12. best thing ever that Lou could do is scrap the zoning appeals process and get some one with a brain in there
then force some of these council men/women to abstain from voting on important issues that help the tax payers with there every day lives

  13. I'm outraged! Where are my two minority representatives? If this had been a black man or women the would have been paraded in handcuffs in front of the tv cameras and sent to jail.

    1. It's a civil lawsuit, not a criminal complaint. Defendants in civil suits don't get arrested, genius.

      Delete
    2. I guess I'm not too smart. So Galuski accepts 34K that's not lawfully his from unemployment and it's civil, but Shameeka accepts $340 in food stamps she's not entitled to and it's welfare fraud and is doing the perp walk. He should be in prison.
