Primaries shape up in Troy judicial race

MAIER
There will be a three-way Democratic Party primary for the two open seats on the Troy City Court bench, in addition to a number of minor party skirmishes.
Incumbent Chris Maier is looking for a second 10-year term while Ian Silverman, currently the city corporation counsel, and attorney Keith Gorman circulated enough petitions to force a Democratic Party primary for the seat held by Maier and a new seat created by the state Legislature.
SILVERMAN
The lone Republican candidate for the two seats is attorney Jill Kehn.
Gorman, who is making his first run at public office and is bucking the party proper by waging the primaries, also filed petitions in the Independence Party, the Working Families Party and the Green Party.
Judicial candidates do not need a Wilson Pakula, or the party’s permission, to run on any particular line so long as a sufficient number of signatures are gathered.

KEHN
The top two vote getters after the primaries in September will be on the respective party’s line come November, and then the two top vote getters will win the seats. In other words, Maier is, in a way, defending his seat, but he is also in a pool of however many candidates are on the ballot for the two open seats. There could be more than three depending on how the primaries turn out.
Here is a breakdown of who collected signatures for what parties:
-Maier: D, I, WFP

GORMAN
-Silverman: D, I, WFP
-Gorman: D, I, WFP, G
-Kehn: R, C, I, WFP
The candidates are also just starting to raise money.
According to the latest financial statements files at the Board of Elections:
-Maier started the period with nothing, raised $6,355 and spent $3,244.
-Silverman started the period with nothing, raised $12,254 and spent nothing
-Kehn started with nothing, raised $11,743 and spent nothing.

-Gorman, who has an account open at the BOE, has not filed anything for the July disclosure. Candidates are not required to file until they begin actively fundraising and raise more than $1,000.

    8. Gorman is a democrat. He was a Republican for a short time because the Childrens museum needed his support when it was closing.

  2. So Gorman wants to be a judge and he can't follow the law and file in time. Classic. Rich, give him better advice!

    1. Even better Gorman wants to be a judge and uses a convicted felon and a central figure in voter fraud to get signatures for him during the petitioning process.

    2. Who said he didn't file in time? You might want to check your facts again.

    3. Well who else is he going to get? No one knows who he is.

    4. Gorman created his campaign committee right after the filing deadline. So I guess he didn't raise or spend anything before that, right? The campaign fairy just left a bunch of custom card stock invitations under his pillow one night.

    5. Upset over card stock invitations...really? Is this the best you have? Welcome to the world of technology! Printing can be done within an hour or two.

    1. Hard to confirm that since he hasn't filed any financial reports.

    2. No? If Gorman isn't working with Crist and the republicans then why did the republican election commissioner draft his petitions and work with him throughout the petitioning process.

  11. Lanni, Fane, Perry...

At least these names are solid with honest work ethic and getting the job done with out screwing the public at large
Also what I am really wondering is how come Sam Judge is not building things in the city at least he is not a slum lord and he is honest to a fault
I recently took a tour of the old strip where he ownes a considerable amount of property
I was invited inside and to me amazement the floors shined the doors were all new and the staircases were absolutely perfect
All new three and two pane windows and down by the river you can see where all the mortar was pointed up with extra care to almost perfection
I would really hope the Rodney & Lou Together not opposed would forget any differences and get Sam Judge on board to work towards a better future for Troy Not some Canadian Company

Also I just want to point out that Warren Fane is the most trustworthy man I have ever met here in Troy

  13. Gorman & Maier will battle it out but Silverman wont be relevant he has already alienated the voters by not taking care of business

  14. Sounds to me like there are some people out there that might be intimidated by Gorman. You should be. His experience alone outdoes any of the others, add in the way he handles himself in all situations and his ability to judge fairly and I see someone you want on that bench.

    2. Gormans experience? This is a criminal court position. What exactly is his criminal law experience? Did he prosecute? No. Did he practice criminal defense? No. Has he ever tried a case? No. Has he ever been in a courtroom?

      Delete
    3. He doesn't even practice in Rensselaer County. He'd need a map to find City Court

    4. Are you sure about that? You might want to check all your facts...

    5. You might want to get your "facts" out there. Why should voters have to go hunting for them?

    1. It's hard to find any. I have no idea who Keith Gorman is. Or Jill Kehn. Chris has always been lackluster but he'll win re-election on name recognition. Silverman is a decent lawyer but won the nomination on political connections, not merit. Which is ironic, because he's so stiff and impersonal he can't get other dems to his events. It doesn't help that Steve Napier is running his campaign, either. The blind leading the blind.

      Delete
    2. Is Napier "running it" or just spamming people and printing lawn signs that look like an intern "designed" them?

      Delete
    3. Whatever he's printing, it's sure to have at least ten typos

    4. Fat fingers. Among other things.

  16. What is wrong with a $150 donation? I wonder what the cost of "tickets" are for the others? I think you would be very surprised. By the way, if this is how you talk about someone who obviously considered you a friend, I would hate to see how you treat someone you do not consider a friend.

  17. A $150 minimum is incumbent Supreme Court level. It's extremely high for an unknown running for city court. Good luck.

  18. Gorman is a decades long active Republican He still is being guided by Rich Crist and the rest of the Republicans. Don't be fooled Democrats.
