KOWNACK |
Longtime activist Peggy Kownack is
throwing her hat in the ring for an At Large seat on the Troy City Council.
“I've submitted my resume for consideration as a
candidate for Troy City Council At-Large to the Democratic Party and am waiting
for an interview to be scheduled,” said Kownack, who is a regular attendee –
and vocal participant - in nearly every Council meeting.
She said she was also contacted by
people in the Working Families Party to run on their line as well.
Kownack is involved in a number of
civic organizations and activities, most notably breathing new life into the
Troy Central Little League.
While Kownack is a longtime
enrolled Democrat, the fact the WFP approached her too is telling.
Council President Rodney Wiltshire
announced he is running to replace Mayor Lou Rosamilia, who opted not to seek a
second term, but he does not have the blessing of the Democratic Party proper,
namely Chairman Tom Wade. He does, though, have strong support within the WFP.
WILTSHIRE |
Wiltshire said he too will send a
resume and interview in front of the Democratic Party committee. There are some
Wade Dem – I call them “Wade Dems” for the sake of clarity - names out there
like Legislators Ed Manny and Cindy Doran, but no one other than Wiltshire has
formally announced. Wade and Wiltshire, during individual appearances on
TALK1300 said they are each prepared to primary.
While the mayor’s race will get
most of the headlines – especially this year when there is a good chance of a
GOP primary as well – all nine Council seats are also up for grabs.
Right now, on paper, the Democrats
have a 7-2 majority. But, the real majority is an odd coalition of four
Democrats – Wiltshire Dems - and two Republicans with three Democrats who remain
loyal to the party left out of most, if not all, of the decision making.
WADE |
It will be interesting if
Wiltshire and the WFP can fill an entire slate to run against Wade Dem
candidates or if they will target only certain seats.
Unlike Wiltshire, the other two At
Large councilmembers – Lynn Kopka and Erin Sullivan-Teta – are Wade Democrats
and it’s unclear if they will run again, if the Wiltshire Democrats will put up
two more candidates or who the GOP will get to run for the three seats. It’s
also not known if the Democrats will put up a third candidate to join Kopka and
Sullivan-Teta on the ticket.
(As an aside, Kownack might be
running with the Wiltshire Dems but she is far from likely to toe anyone’s
line. We'll talk to her about it this Saturday on Talk1300.)
BODNAR |
Here is a cursory look at the rest
of the Council:
-In District 1, Councilman Jim
Gordon, a Republican, has all but announced his intention to run for mayor - he is even holding a fundraiser on April 21. While
it might be the only GOP stronghold in the city, people in the ‘Burgh will cross
party lines for the right candidate.
-In District 2, Councilwoman
Anastasia Robertson, a Democrat, is in Wiltshire’s camp and former Councilman Mark
McGrath, an enrolled Conservative who ran with GOP support, is likely to run for
his old seat. It’s not clear if the Wade Democrats will challenge Robertson.
DOHERTY |
-In District 3 incumbent Dean Bodnar, a
Republican, has two more years before he is term limited out. Bodnar is a
Republican but he is more independent than a party loyalist. With chaos running
rampant across the ballot this year, it would not be a surprise if everyone
just leaves Bodnar alone and focuses their fight in other areas.
-In District 4, Councilman Bob
Doherty, a Democrat, is squarely in the Wiltshire camp. The district heavily
favors Democrats so it will be interesting to see who the Wade Dems put up.
-In District 5, Councilman Ken
Zalewski is term limited out. He is one of Wiltshire’s biggest supporters but
all three factions – Wade Dems, Wiltshire Dems and the GOP – have a shot at
this district.
-In District 6, Councilman Gary
Galuski is also term limited out. He is a staunch Wade Dem but like District 5
it’s a toss-up.
One sure is it’s going to be a fun
year in the Collar City.
fun for you, confusion and dysfunction for the rest of us
ReplyDeleteWhoever runs it is hoped that they truly have a real grasp on the economic issues that face this city. The padding for overtime which ultimately drives up pension costs born by the city for years, the deficit that needs to be reduced, the alleged corruption on King Street "emergency tear downs". Leave term limits in place, have residency requirements for city employees and enforce it, figure out a way to get cash flow from tax exempts that make up the city and please - no more low income housing. We cannot afford the problems that come with it. Let the Troy Police Department do their job and stop with the quick knee jerk reaction that it is the cops fault. By the way, what about the shooting that did happen in Kokopelli's ? Anything going on there ?
ReplyDeleteAnd what about the cop who tipped off drug dealers?? What's going on with that?
DeleteWill they install smoke eaters and supply ash trays if she wins?
ReplyDeletewtf so she isn't fit to run because she smokes.last time I checked it wasn't against the law to smoke. u must really have a lot of time on your hands to even make a stupid comment like that.i bet you were picked on a lot as a child or your mommy didn't give you enough attention.try getting a life mr perfect lol
DeleteCan renters run?
ReplyDeleteYes you snobs. Renters are people to and they represent the new majority of Troy residents. Unemployed with their hands out.
DeleteWhy does it take a village to manage the dwindling population in the city of Troy? The city has a blight of burned out buildings, foreclosed vacant buildings, collapsing water mains, etc. Wouldn't it be better to put a real leader in Administration, eliminate the city council jobs at $14,000 a position and use that money to fix what is wrong in the city?
ReplyDeleteJust when you thought the city council couldn't get scarier... it looks like it could.
ReplyDeleteshe' the modern day Arlene Cahill......if elected Troy will remain the laughing stock of the capitol region.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like George Rodgers sister
ReplyDeleteSTOP WELFARE !! SECTION 8!!!
ReplyDeleteDart lady is the sister of the tree loving planner zubcovitz
ReplyDeleteStill looks better than bobby cox
ReplyDeleteNot really. She has a better tan.
DeleteThat's because cox has prolly never seen Florida. All lies. Where are all the toys u we're bringing to troy. Remember the one with the most toys wins. All I see is a bunch of cars and trucks fit for a kids first car
DeleteHe never has been in Florida Just another fib
DeleteWhat about Glick shooting the guy in his bar ?
ReplyDeleteIs the DA going to pursue that ?
What's going on ?
Wow what a fire in South Troy, nice to see the Mayor concerned about the residents...apparently he feels differently about residents in the south end. Did you notice Chief Garrett said he felt the buildings could be salvaged. That's good news after seeing what horrible condition the buildings on King St were in when they had to be demolished immediately!
ReplyDeleteLynn Kopka did a nice job of quickly organizing help for the displaced families. She took control and was assisted by Mayor Lou, Gordon and Teta. Only in Troy could a disaster like this bring about ugly politics.Councilman Zalewski was also at the fire but Rodney was not.In Ken's zeal to get his guy Rodney elected he went to facebook thanking Rodney for being there and all his help. He was n't there. Is there no shame?
DeleteI was at the CYO building on Friday night and I met Rodney and his wife Jolanne. There were very kind and helpful to us. Why would you post something to say he wasnt there? even if you dont like Rodney you can at least be thankful for his help. tal k about ugly politics!
DeleteThey call that Kennys world.
DeleteI heard Kenny boy got an old fashioned beat down from mark McGrath over the charter review commission.
DeleteKownack is a life long resident of Troy, who genuinely cares about the people and the city. Donates hundreds of hours annually to a multitude of cleanup projects geared towards the lower income communities. Kownack didn't just start these activities recently, as long as there was trash on the sidewalks; overgrown grass and weeds, collapsed dams, vandalized cemeteries or forgotten baseball fields, Margaret has been there to clean up the mess. Troy is a disaster area right now and only a handful of officials admit it. Kownack is Troy, she eats, sleeps and breaths Troy. people like Kownack are the reason cities turn around. I personaly hope that the people she fights for are willing to fight for her.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree.
DeleteShe is also uneducated and easily mislead. Peggy is not a bad or evil person but would bring outlandish ideas with no means of financially supporting them.
DeleteGive her credit for at least having ideas.
DeleteShe may not be "educated" in the formal meaning, but she is 100% better educated about the real problems plaguing Troy.
DeleteYes the REAL problems. Lets start with some small problems like cleaning up Troy's properties shall we. How about her constant attendence and support at ZB meetings blathering on about the proposed Cox junkyard across from the Snowman and next to a daycare. All of Troy should have a replica of that dump on River Street. And that splendid burned out parcel on 112TH owned by the Cox family is also a real welcome when entering Troy's north end. Don't know where she came from but please take her back.
DeleteGood point. Just one of the many things to sink her smoky ship
DeleteI love her husky trembling voice.
DeleteHug the Mayor
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't know what that is. Still waiting on the employee appreciation pizza party like harry used to have and maybe even a contract
DeleteHe doesn't respect the employees. Opposite of Harry on everything
DeleteTreats them way better than Harry, Dan and Mirch did.
DeleteI'm city employee and that's an outright lie.
DeleteHe Is a fool
DeleteI guess Mirch never threw you on the back of a garbage truck.
DeleteThat's how Harry and Mirch gave city tours to potential investors.
DeleteMcgrath in D1. Unfortunately he's back
ReplyDeleteGood news is McGrath is back in D2 as far as Fredo in D1 not as a dem, maybe WFP.
DeleteK McGrath is politically dead. No friends left in any party.
DeleteWrong again Jimmy, Kevin has a HUGE following. Just ask him or Amy.
DeleteJimbo will get his clock cleaned no matter where he runs.
DeleteGo away Fredo
DeleteStill can a renter run for office? Not a tax payer I have concerns
ReplyDeleteYes, same with people paying on a mortgage. Not true home owners until it's paid in full.
DeleteRenters pay taxes through their rent, dumbass
DeleteShe just moved back from wynantskill
DeleteBuilding owner pays tax
DeleteRenters are squatters basically. Shouldn't be allowed to run for office. I would assume the only renter now is Anastasia and look whee that got us
DeleteYes,renters can run you do however need to have a history of voting in Troy
DeleteYou should also have a history of passing seventh grade
DeleteDayna vendetta
ReplyDeleteDayna looks better than Vonfricken
DeleteKitty looks better than dayna
DeleteMonica looks better in a skirt
DeleteOmg that's great. Must be bill dunnes favorite post
DeleteI think Monica and Brandy Taylor are related. Do you
DeleteNot at all
DeleteTroy-- Home of some of the most immature adults in the Capital Region.
ReplyDeleteYeah but I'm King of the GOP suckas!
DeleteShe's an ash tray
ReplyDeleteRuss reeves for mayor
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet!
DeleteGreat idea!
DeleteAssuming he stays out of jail!
DeleteHe will bill. Will you?
DeleteReeves isn't going to jail idiot.
DeleteIs that the best you got?
DeleteReeves is a hunk!
DeleteRemember that Rodney chose to be absent from two budget votes two years in a row as his vacation was more important than his paid obligation to be at the meeting to vote. He had no problem taking the money to be there, but clearly was on a planned vacation when it was time to vote. His priority and his clear colors were demonstrated.
ReplyDeleteBy the comments here i say she end her campaign now. Avoid embarrasment
ReplyDeleteHug the Mayor
ReplyDeleteBrian gross hugs the mayor each day he collects a paycheck for doing nothing after committing crime
DeleteWho gets rawhide out of parking tickets
Delete710 were you made fun of in highschool?
DeleteOh hunny I'm just fine. With all this residency chat are you?
DeleteA okay baby you don't even know :-*
DeleteHow many cigarette breaks can one take during an 8 hour work day?
DeleteOh I do. U and your cusin will have issues soon
Deletecat fights in city hall. Lynn we need you ASAP!
DeleteWho who. Lou said the 3 r s. What gives man
DeleteWho cares. Both losers obviously read above
DeleteShe's already begun selling her soul to gain support. Rodney is teaching her well.
ReplyDeleteShe is just another of Rodney's bottom feeders..
ReplyDeleteShe's smarter than Jim Gordon
ReplyDeleteYeah, but Gordon has a local tech company backing him up.
DeleteHow hard is that?
DeleteGo away Fredo. Heard you lost your last defender, what a suprise! Take Back Yourself, biggest loser of Lansingburgh.
DeleteImagine having to listen to that voice every council meeting. Oh yeah we already do
ReplyDeleteQuestion is -- will she stay to hear all of the public comments or run out after she has said what she has to say? Apparently hers are the the only ones that count ! Hows that for an at large rep !!
DeleteSerious question - What are the dart lady's qualifications and educational background to sit on a city council ?
ReplyDeleteHer and Erin Tete are graduates of charm school
DeleteAnd what was Teta-Sullivan's? What a joke that one is
DeleteGaluski loves Erin there and wishes Peggy was there too. For the first time in his life people would ask him questions for he would be considered the smartest of them all.
DeleteHug the Mayor
ReplyDeleteMaybe now galuski can claim more unemployment he won't pay back to the state
ReplyDeleteAt least we know she'll show up for budget votes
ReplyDeleteWe'll be there all night the way she jaws on and on and on and on and on.
DeleteAnd talk and talk and talk and talk. She's capped by a 5 minute time limit now imagine when she isn't? My ears hurt already.
DeleteHere's the reality. You want tax savings? Eliminate the entire county Legislature. They do absolutely nothing except collect paychecks and in the case of the chairman Martin Reid, lie and steal from taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteThanks commissioner dunne. Jury meets this week oh boy
DeleteCertainly a thought for consideration. The salary for a part time job is too high.
DeleteAnd they get full benefits. (Of course, if you're Martin Reid that's just not enough, and you end up lying to get additional benefits.)
DeleteGood Lord! People believe that renters cannot run for office? That is thoroughly disgusting. If you live in the city, you can run, period. Shame on anyone who think the law should be changed.
ReplyDeleteeven if you don't live in the city you can run .....ask Mike Loporto!
DeleteYou can submit a FOIA too thee Brunswick Assessor, for info on a persons property address. The sheet they give you in response has a box in the right hand corner that shows if said property is receiving STAR - as their primary residense. Then if they list a Troy address as their primary, me thinks that would be called FRAUD. Get it?
DeletePenny learn how to spell
DeleteNo dumbass. You don't "get it".
DeleteHug the mayor
ReplyDeleteCorrection: In district 5, the GOP has no chance. Wrong information.
ReplyDeleteThe GOP has no chance anywhere they decide to run Jim "do nothing" Gordon, the flaming failure of Lansingburgh.
ReplyDeleteI believe Jim is working behind the scenes with social media to get his message out there.
DeleteThat's good, since he sure as hell isn't working at anything else.
DeleteI'm curious to see what each candidates plan is for the rising crime in Troy. Rodney hates police and blames them for anything he can. I heard he blamed them for the mudslide on Brunswick Rd and the spring ave bridge being closed.
ReplyDeleteHe was upset when they questioned him about taking dpw sand too
DeleteHe also blamed them for the frozen pipes, his freakishly long tongue, Jolene's housekeeping and the flying fish.
DeleteIs Peggy related to Hank Baur? Wow the resemblance is off the charts.
ReplyDeleteThey're brother and sister.
DeleteTom Wade is interviewing candidates for Mayor, didn't he pick the last guy? Why don't we interview a guy for Tom's job?
ReplyDeleteThings are heating up between the new dynamic duo of Carmella and Amy O and the evil Kevin McCashion. Kevin's satirical wit has gotten under the skin of the two pure as driven snow victims. Carmella once the darling of Kathy Jimino's republcan machine has evidently had a falling out. Kathy has told her employee and Troy City Repub chairman Wojcik that Carmella's three previous loses were enough.Carmella, undeterred and with the aid of Dworsky and the disturbed Amy O have labeled Wojcik, McCashion and any and all republican candidates as misogynists, racists, children haters, animal haters....well you get the picture, true victims. To sum this all up this battle is raging on twitter, facebook and press releases, and yes these are middle aged men and women who have the disre and profess to have the ability to run the city of Troy. We're screwed!
ReplyDeleteThe Council President/Mayoral hopeful is so anti-police that he makes DeBlasio look like a law and order conservative.
ReplyDeletePat Russo who was in charge of the drug seizure money, ear marked $40,000 to set up an office for the Sheriff in South Carolina so he could be on vacation and keep an eye on operation. Now the county leg have control of the money per the state. Hey Pat what do you have to say about that. Soon all this along with the law suits will be coming out and then I would say it is over.
ReplyDeleteHug the Mayor
ReplyDeleteDidn't Gordon lose twice before being handed the D1 seat?
ReplyDeleteYes he did Carm. But understand that you're a loser, and the voters don't want you in office. Madden is real and will win - you on the other hand are a phony Just go away Carmella.
DeleteMadden is too old. We need somebody young in there. We are living in the tech age and I can't follow a leader who doesn't understand what "torrent" means.
DeleteWhat has Madden done for Troy besides running TRIP on a deficiet? Endorse a guy who runs TRIP on a deficiet when the city of Troy is facing a financial crisis. That's like letting a Priest babysit your kids. You're just asking for trouble.
ReplyDeleteDeficit, not deficiet. Why are Troy Repubs always so stupid? Inbreeding maybe
Delete
